Challenge
The client wanted to design a laid back hearth room and a Lanai complete with fireplaces, a bar, and a pizza oven that seamlessly transitioned to their existing in-ground pool all while matching the home’s interior and exterior style. The lanai also needed to be able to be used year round! This has to be designed and constructed so it appeared part of the original home.
Solution
We used the same stone as was used during the home’s construction to create fluidity through the interior and exterior and we incorporated retractable glass doors leading to the pool and heaters in the ceiling for year-round comfort. Floor to ceiling rolling vinyl was used to enclose and heat the lanai, truly making it a four seasons room.

The right outdoor setup can add so much more to a home. When creating this Lanai and Hearth Room, our team had one main goal; to create an addition that would functionally link the house to the pool area without standing out from the theme of the rest of the home. Using inspiration that our client took from another one of our projects, we were not just able to reach that goal, but exceed it.
In order to match the rest of the home, we used the same stone as was used during the home’s construction, and conveniently stored the television behind shutters, to prevent it from interfering with the design. Along with the stone, the space also incorporates reclaimed wood into the cabinetry and ceiling beams. While the wood works well aesthetically due to its gorgeous patina, it is also extremely durable, making it perfect for an outdoor build.
Being that the home is in Michigan, it was important to make sure our client could utilize the area all throughout the year, so we incorporated retractable glass doors leading to the pool and heaters in the ceiling. The brick pizza oven, outdoor bar, and large fireplace provide something for everyone to enjoy, whether relaxing or hosting guests.
By using the right materials and keeping usability in mind, we were able to create the best possible addition for our client, giving them an indoor/outdoor space to love all year round.
